TRENTON — It might get a cold reception from some New Jersey kids, but state lawmakers have begun advancing a bill that would require them to wear helmets while ice skating. A 2004 study published in the journal Pediatrics found that the “proportion of head injuries among ice-skaters… was greater than that observed for participants in other types of skating” and recommended mandatory helmet use for children at indoor ice rinks, where most of the injuries occurred.
